Custom Made Orthotics
Just as prescription glasses come in different styles, shapes and corrections, so do custom biomechanical foot orthoses. Biomechanical orthotic devices, or orthoses, are custom-made. They are designed to fit inside the shoes to help your feet perform at their peak efficiency. Although they somewhat resemble arch supports, true biomechanical devices do not work on the principal of supporting the arch, but rather enhance biomechanical function. At Eglinton Kennedy Foot Clinic, our orthotics are casted in supine non-weightbearing position using Plaster of Paris or a 3D laser scanner. Plaster of Paris is considered the optimum in capturing the foot in subtalar joint neutral and is considered to be the gold standard of casting method. 3D laser scanner is designed to mimic plaster of Paris. We employ these methods in order to ensure accuracy in our orthotics. Most insurance companies require either one of these methods to ensure coverage.
